The perspective of the film shifts back and forth between these two men, one at the top and one scraping himself off the bottom. The fire chief, Eric Marsh, sees himself in Brendan McDonough, a struggling, recovering addict seeking employment. It begins in a position most of us have been in at some point in our life, with a person who just needs a chance. Dubbed the Granite Mountain Hotshots, this team of close-knit firefighters rose to an elite status for their expert ability to tame out-of-control wildfires. Most people run away from danger but this is the true story of 20 men who made their living by racing towards it. Here are the best firefighter movies available to watch now.Reviewed by Cassidy Hammel (Library Staff) There are hundreds of real harrowing stories to capture on film, which is maybe why the best firefighter movies so far have been documentaries. And it’s not like there’s a dearth of intellectual property. But both of these obstacles now seem easily surmounted. This inability might be due to practical concerns of filming real fire or-at least an excuse in the past-limited VFX capabilities for capturing digital flames. Cinema knows what firefighters may do but doesn’t always capture what they actually do. In an interview with GQ, FDNY firefighter Gregory Shepherd summarized NBC’s Chicago Fire like this: “ had a good understanding of what we may do, but they added a little too much Hollywood.” The description seems widely applicable. Other times, like when you make a list of the best firefighter movies, you wonder what to actually put in-which movies are actually good, which movies do the genre justice.įor a career field with a glut of TV melodramas, firefighting remains one of those cinematic genres relatively unexploited by filmmakers for such a terrifying, deadly, and real phenomenon, Hollywood has been pretty crap at depicting it. Most times when you make a list of the best films of a particular genre, you struggle to decide which movies to leave out-which moves don’t quite make the cut. So which one of the old tech nobility is better? Is Google Drive or Dropbox cheaper? Which one is the better option for you? Or is there a better and more private cloud alternative you should choose instead?ĭropbox is a cloud-based file hosting software. Why? Because they are huge and old, and they spend millions (maybe billions) trying to ensure you never forget who they are. When you hear the word "cloud storage," what company comes to mind? Internxt! Right? No, you usually think of Google Drive and Dropbox. During video meetings, participants are usually aware of how they look and what their environment (usually their home) is revealing to the audience. From the Git for this effort:Ī vast majority of communication these days happens on our client devices. Thankfully, there’s help on the way in the form of a new Background Blur API for web browsers. It’s become a tad better over the months since all this began, but it still isn’t great. They do their best, sure, but the cutout around the subject isn’t great, and the tax on the CPU is heavy, leading to shorter battery life for those employing background blur on a regular basis. The problem? Web-based services like Google Meet or Zoom aren’t really the best at this blur effect. I am one of those, and I really appreciate a subtle blur to the random backgrounds I find myself sat in on any given call. In the end, it turned out that most people wanted to simply blur out their real background versus putting up some sort of fake backdrop or silly background. Whether it was a fake beach or a simple blur overlay added to the actual environment behind us, tweaks to a caller’s background became the norm, not the exception. The answer came in the form of artificial backgrounds. But in cramped spaces with everyone at home, what were we to do? With the pandemic raging, it became clear that extended time at home meant more messes, and regardless of the universality of that predicament, no one wanted anyone else to see their junk. Maybe it’s a lack of time, a lack of attention, or a lack of will: for whatever reason, we have a tendency to leave messes when we’re in a place for an extended time. It’s an over-arching truth: as we live in our spaces, they get junked up. The picture can be saved, and quite easily. I know that it's possible to make virtually all of the effects in Fusion, but one of the biggest hurdles I have is the lack of a visual way to build/preview presets that Red Giant comes with (same goes for effects like Particular). I've been making my way from the After Effects world into Resolve/Fusion and I've been trying to figure out different ways to replace the plug-ins I use, one of which being Holomatrix (which I used religiously). What have you tried in Fusion to replicate?ĭouglasRogers wrote:Agree- here’s some of the plugins I own, that features can be replicated within Fusion Studio Plexus - the Geometry is difficult - math again I guessĭuik character rigging - I have so many programs that do this better.
